Experience
During Summer 2024, I interned as a Network Support Engineer at Cisco Meraki in the San Francisco, CA office, where I gained hands-on experience in post-sales troubleshooting and client-focused network solutions.
I worked closely with Cisco clients to diagnose and resolve complex networking issues across security appliances, switches, SD-WAN environments, and VPN tunnels.
Additionally, I troubleshot switch misconfigurations (STP, LACP, VLANs), SD-WAN routing (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), and VPN tunnels (IKEv2, IPsec, L2TP) to optimize connectivity across client-distributed networks. Using Wireshark, I analyzed end-to-end host communication, intercepting IPv4 and IPv6 packets to identify DHCP and DNS issues affecting client networks.
For my internship project, I developed a Python-based automation script using the Meraki API to streamline ISP failover processes for NAT and port-forwarding rules among multiple Meraki MX’s to reduce the runtime from one hour to 30 seconds, improving network uptime for enterprise clients.
This experience reinforced my passion for post-sales and solutions engineering, where I see immense value not only in designing and deploying network infrastructure, but also ensuring its long-term reliability and optimization for end users and their network stack. ๐
During Summer 2022, I interned as a Backend Software Developer at IBM in the San Jose, CA office, where I worked on building scalable cloud-native microservices. My focus was on optimizing API performance, automating deployments, and increasing system performance among key users.
I developed and deployed microservices with Nginx load balancers using Docker, reducing server response times by 25% to prevent API gateway throttling in high-traffic applications. To streamline deployment workflows, I implemented CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Git to automate container orchestration with IBM’s Cloud Foundry (deprecated) and Kubernetes.
Additionally, I optimized API integrations by containerizing microservices with Docker Volumes and stateful applications, leading to a 20% reduction in processing times. I also gained experience in learning how to refactor data queries and improving database performance using IBM Db2 and PostgreSQL to ensure reliable cloud services.
I utilized Prometheus and Grafana for system monitoring to collect cluster-wide performance metrics, visualize real-time system alerts, and detect bottlenecks related to high latency, CPU utilization, and disk space.
This experience strengthened my expertise in backend architectures, cloud automation, and scalable infrastructure, giving me a deeper understanding of optimizing distributed systems for performance and reliability. ๐
